Eco-Friendly
The environmental impact of real silk ranks higher than almost all other fibres, mainly due to its global warming potential and use of fossil fuels chiefly in the reeling and processing stages. This scarf is made of 'vegan silk', using fabricated microfibre yarns to create a silk-like, more environmental-friendly alternative. Furthermore, it is printed with high-quality carcinogen-free Italian pigment inks. No cancer-causing chemicals and undesirable surfactants.
Zero plastic
We pack your threads in recyclable acid-free tissue paper and use only plant-based home compostable mailers, at no extra cost. By sending your parcel with our delivery partner Australia Post, you’re supporting their carbon-offset projects that have positive environmental and social impacts. Since 2019, their carbon neutral parcel delivery initiative is equivalent of taking 75,000 cars off the road – or roughly 200,000 tonnes of emissions.
Controlled production
Sustainability involves finding a balance between supply and demand. Life Apparel works with local and international factories where only limited quantities are produced of each model to ensure exclusivity and avoid overproduction, like large fashion brands. Learn more →

ABOUT
THE DESIGN
The ‘silver fern’ Cyathea dealbata – ponga in te reo Māori – is a species of tree fern only found in New Zealand. The fern symbol’s association with our national representative sports teams and the armed forces over many years gives it deep emotional resonance for New Zealanders.
It is a New Zealand icon that has been proudly worn by generations for over 160 years. The multiple points of the fern leaf represent Aotearoa’s peaceful, multicultural society, a single fern spreading upwards represents one person growing onward into the future.
This scarf features a licensed version of the silver fern, designed by Kyle Lockwood.
