About the design

The We Will Remember Them polo is designed to remember those who gave their today for our tomorrow.

This polo specifically focuses on the Australian Flag. Before the year 1901, “Australia” was thought to consist of six British colonies. Each colony had a separate flag - though all were based on the Union Flag. As “Australia” came to be, a few different flags were formed and used. Following Federation on the 1st of January in 1901, a competition was created for a new federal flag.

The competition saw 32,823 entries, and each design was judged on the history, heraldry, distinctiveness, utility, loyalty to the empire and the cost of manufacture. Five designers created identical flags, and shared the prize.

The flag has three elements; the Union Jack, the Southern Cross and the Commonwealth Star - all set on a dark blue background.

The Union jack on the top right corner represents the British Settlement. The Southern Cross is located on the right of the flag and is the only constellation of five stars which can be seen from the southern hemisphere - serving as a reminder of Australia’s geographic location. Finally, the Commonwealth star is placed below the Union Jack, and has seven points - representing the six states and territories of Australia.

Positioned in front of the Australian Flag, Australian soldiers can be seen in mission wearing WW2 uniforms, wearing the Slouch Hat and each holding a Lee-Enfield rifle with an attached bayonet.

The Bristol Beaufighter aircraft is seen flying high on the left shoulder in the stormy background, above the red poppy on the left breast.

The Flanders poppy has long been a part of Remembrance Day and is also being used as part of Anzac Day observances. The Red Poppy was the first to flower in the battlefields of France and Belgium in WW1. Soldiers folklore believe that the bright red poppy came from their comrades blood in the ground. The Red Poppy on the front as well as on the right shoulder of the polo commemorate this.
