About the design

The Honouring Our Diggers polo is a tribute shirt for all men and women whom served at war. The green camouflage design incorporates many ANZAC icons, commemorating those who fought for Australia and New Zealand.

‘Digger’ became slang for soldiers in the military representing Australia and New Zealand. Although the slang term was used beforehand in the mines, it became most prominent in World War 1. The term ‘digger’ is now linked to the concept of an ANZAC legend, as well as mateship.

The front of the Honouring Our Diggers polo shows a digger hiding on a rock. In the background, soldiers are seen marching, with warcraft aeroplanes and birds in the distance.

A sprig of Rosemary is seen in the pocket of the polo. Rosemary is particularly significant to Australians, as the plant is found wildly growing on the Gallipoli peninsula, where many ANZACs fought and passed away fighting.

The sprig on the shirt commemorates this, but has also been believed to hold memory improving properties since ancient times.

On the front & back the 3rd pattern Rising Sun Badge can be seen. We are proud to have an official endorsement from the Australian Army that allows us to display the 3rd Pattern Rising Sun Badge on this polo.

This special insignia was worn by all soldiers of the 1st and 2nd Australian Imperial Force in both WW1 and WW2. This version of the rising sun badges incorporated a scroll which had the words “Australian Commonwealth Military Forces” inscribed.

The Last Post is a traditional military bugle call which typically signified the end of that day’s activities. Often, the Last Post is played at a soldier or military funeral to indicate the soldier has gone to rest. It is also played during commemorative services such as Remembrance Day and Anzac Day. The back of the polo shows a soldier playing the last post, with a nurse standing by his side.

The iconic khaki and camouflage design and colours of the WW1 and WW2 uniforms are transitioned across onto our polo, though with a brighter green.
